Okay, so here's a few tips for getting crisp corners on this lovely dress.
First make sure you have stay stitched at every corner:
staystitch along seam allowance |
Then you will need to clip up to - the stitching, but not through it:
THIS IS UP-TO |
UP - TO |
THIS IS NOT |
Okay, moving on.
Now, you will attach the side insets, start at the top and pin down to the 1st clip, then 2 the second. We'll leave the last point till after we get these first 2 in.
this is the last corner not attached |
Okay so now, when you stitch, stitch up to the 1st corner/clip, leave the needle in the fabric and lift the presser foot so you can turn the fabric:
I started from the bottom; you can start either end |
I'm at the corner, leave needle in, lift presser foot |
turn fabric to go straight and finish |
When you're done it should look like this:
minus the threads of course ") |
Now let's get that last corner/turn done. Just pin the remaining fabric from the clip to the end. The clip allows you to turn the fabric and manipulate it.
stitch from the clip to the end. |
And the finished front looks like this (after you complete the other side)
Hope this helps! Love to see your finished dresses!
Thanks for posting these tips. I'm considering making a dressy version of this dress for an event next month.
