Do you have a question that you just can't find an answer to; send it in, and I'll post the answer.
1. When I see the term 'staystitching', is this a special hand or machine stitch?
This is a machine stitch. To staystitch, stitch a line of regular machine stitches in the seam allowance, an 1/8" from the stitching line, this prevents the edges from stretching. You will also do this when stitching a straight edge into a curved edge, like in a princess seam.2. Can you explain 'understitching'?
This is stitching that anchors the facing to the seam allowance, which holds the facing in place so it will not roll to the outside and show. To understitch, turn (press) the seam allowance toward the facing. Machine-stitch through the facing and the seam allowances near the seam line. Turn the facing to the inside of the garment.
