McCall 7536 How do I sew these shoulders??! Let me help.

This really isn't that hard, maybe a little tricky, but you can handle it!

Okay, so this dress has a lined bodice and the shoulders are stitched to the lining to create a clean finish without slip stitching at the shoulder. So let's get this done.

Okay, so the lining has been added and is stitched at the neck, and underarm, up to the circle only.
You will have open (unstitched), the upper arm and the shoulders. It should look like this from the right side:

This is the right side of the dress

And from the inside (lining side)

                                  inside of garment

Okay, next you will open out the lining shoulder seam from the garment shoulder seam.

Just pull the lining out, separate the lining from the garment.

You see,  the lining will be on one side, the seam (where the lining and dress were stitched) in the middle, and the dress fabric on the other side.

Make yours look like this, (and do this to the back also).

Both shoulders (front, back) need the lining separated at the shoulder from the dress fabric.

Okay, so now you are going to bring the shoulders together of the dress fabric

and pin them

Then, bring the lining shoulders together and pin them

We now have the entire shoulder pinned from the lining straight through to the garment side.

You will now stitch a seam all the way from the lining side, across the seam (where the lining and garment were stitched) onto the garment side.

ONE straight seam. Got it? It will look like this:

Then from the outside, it will look like this:

All you have to do now is turn the lining under, turn in the seam allowances on the armhole, and slip stitch the opening closed. And you're done.

Good JOB!
